Dear Friends of Hood Canal

We need your help.

The Jefferson County Shoreline Master Program is now under review by the Washington Department of Ecology. We have worked long and hard to get to this point. The document under review by Ecology will ban all mining related activities from the shoreline of Hood Canal as well as from almost all of our other county shoreline. This includes piers, conveyor belts and loading equipment for ships and barges. This vitally important legislation has already been approved by our county commissioners. With approval by the Department of Ecology, it will become law and provide long term protection from future projects like the pit-to-pier project. While we must continue to fight pit-to-pier; when we kill it, it will not be able to come back - if our new Shoreline Master Program is approved with the ban on shoreline mining operations.

Please take a minute and send a quick email comment that supports the Jefferson County Shoreline Master Plan and the ban on all mining operations including piers, conveyors and ship or barge loading facilites. The address is shown below. Written comments will be accepted until May 11th when the Public Comment Period ends, but why not do it now.
